Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has confirmed for the first time one of its leaders, Algerian Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, was killed in fighting in northern Mali, without specifying a date, in a statement released , Sunday, June 16, by the private Mauritanian online agency ANI.
