Syria: Wait for bread in the streets of Aleppo can cost lives

In a report published Thursday, August 23 on the situation in Aleppo, the second Syrian city, Amnesty International denounced the "terrible" situation of civilians caught between the army and rebels. The report does not spare anyone. During a ten-day mission in Aleppo in early August, Amnesty International has found that civilians were facing a "terrible violence" in the battle between the forces of the regime of Bashar al-Assad to rebel fighters.

The regular army is accused of aiming indiscriminately residential neighborhoods, affecting mostly civilians, in air strikes and shelling with heavy artillery. "The use of imprecise weaponry such as unguided bombs, firing artillery and mortar by government forces have greatly increased the danger to civilians," said Donatella Rovera, Amnesty International Advisor, back to Aleppo.
