Silvio Berlusconi's trial for his role in "Rubygate" has once again been postponed because of election commitments of the former President of the Council, decided Monday, February 11, the court of Milan. The "Cavaliere", who is accused in the trial of child prostitution and abuse of power, is indeed involved in the general election campaign, a "legitimate impediment" his lawyers argued. The court accepted this request, as he had done at the previous hearing.
To avoid this situation in the coming weeks, the court rejected all future hearings after the elections of February 24 and 25, calling for parts 4, 8, 14 and 18 March. The prosecutor in the trial, Ilda Boccassini, but denounced "the delaying strategy" Cavaliere, 76, and asked the court to pronounce its verdict soon after the resumption of hearings.
Within a trial "Rubygate", which began in April 2011, Mr Berlusconi is accused of having paid in 2010 a dozen sexual services of a young Moroccan, Karima El Mahroug, nicknamed "Ruby the thief of hearts" minor at the time. In this trial, Berlusconi faces up to three years in prison for child prostitution and twelve years for abuse of power. He is accused of putting pressure on the police headquarters in Milan to release Karima El Mahroug, arrested for larceny in May 2010.
Opponents argue that the Cavaliere is especially for election to continue to enjoy immunity.
